New Series On Veterans' Battle With PTSD
World Progress Report Launches Series About Veterans Battling PTSD 04/17/2010. War. It's not always waged on a battle field. Nor, is it always two countries in conflict. Sometimes, war can take on a different front. About one out of seven military personnel have experienced the affects of posttraumatic stress disorder when returning home from a deployment. A faceless battle that rages from within, PTSD can leave servicemen and women feeling debilitated and weak. Yet, current research and effective treatments are proving that there is hope. VA Study Shows Improved Function Years After a Stroke
Clinical study shows patients gain limb movement years after stroke 04/17/2010. Patients show modest yet meaningful gains in limb movement and an improved outlook on life years after suffering a stroke, a major clinical study has found. The paper, published online this week in the New England Journal of Medicine (free online), provides the best evidence yet that stroke sufferers in a controlled study can regain limb movement long after an injury, through intensive therapy with specially trained personnel and newly created robotic aids. The three-year randomized control trial by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs enrolled 127 veterans at four VA sites. Brown University via PhyOrg.com
